Over a year ago, I started producing more music than I had ever created in the past. It never had a home per se, and I wasn’t creating it for anyone or any artists in particular. I was simply producing music to produce music. Flex the muscle a bit, you could say.
As many musicians will tell you, they most likely have a hard drive (or multiple) collecting dust with all their half-ideas and unfinished melodies on it. I fall into this category.
One day I was looking at all the material I had and I asked myself “What are you waiting on? Just release it. Get it out there. Maybe someone will actually like it.”
So that’s how this project came around. These songs are simple, feel-good instrumentals that I’ve created over the last year or so. They aren’t flashy. They aren’t “hits”. They’re just expressions of how I was feeling the day I produced them. Nothing more and nothing less. Some of them are arguably repetitive, but that's okay. To me, It’s about finally releasing something I’ve held onto for so long, with no real reason why I kept it in hiding.
Many years ago when I first moved to Los Angeles, I went to my cousin's cabin in a small, non-governed town in the mountains. I fell in love with it up there. The crisp air, the breathtaking hikes, the sound of leaves crunching underneath your feet, and the wind whisking through the trees. If you didn’t know where you were, you’d never guess there were 18 million people in LA an hour and a half away. That town is called Arrowbear.
Over two decades later, I still frequently return to that cabin.
As I said in the title of this blog, I can't believe I'm actually typing this out. The first song, “Apricate” from my new music project, Arrowbear, comes out everywhere you listen to music on March 31st. 🎶
